Jessica was super helpful with our son. We started working with Jessica when our son was only 18 months old. He had very minimal sounds/ verbal language. She worked with our son for several years and to watch the progression was astounding. Her heart for children is so evident. She is always looking for new ways to meet each child individually. Our son is now 6 years old and is more verbal and articulate than we could have imagined. Our son has graduated from speech therapy , however, we will forever consider Jessica a friend.
Miss Jessica is the best therapist of sounds and has fun toys. She also is very funny with kids. She loves to tell funny jokes and always has a smile on her face. She loves to sign. She loves kids. She is gentle with them. 🌽🍨❤️ (L's sister)
Miss Jessica you have been a gift to our daughter and the rest of the family. We see the twinkle in her eyes when she first sees you coming in our home. Jessica you have made such a difference in the way she communicates with us, friends and community. We see how she has gained more confidence in herself because of you. You have a special way of incorporating her interest in a learning process and making it fun. We appreciate the emails letting us know of her progress during the session and ideas to work at home. Miss Jessica goes beyond in providing us with materials and ordering tools to help her. Thank you for helping us all use sign language.
When Jessica came into our lives, our almost-2-year-old son couldn’t mimic baby babbling sounds, and had regressed from saying “What is that?” a few months earlier to, “Dzzddzdd.” To say we were scared and worried is an understatement. But with her calm, friendly enthusiasm, Jessica put us at ease and assured us that in time, he would be able to talk. She suspected he had a motor planning disorder, and brought in an occupational therapist to help confirm the diagnosis. Our son loved his weekly playtime with her (and her amazing Mary Poppins bag of toys), and within a few months, he was speaking in sentences. Even now as a 5-year-old, strangers sometimes compliment his speech, and I want to tell them that it’s all because of Jessica’s amazing work!
Our family was so fortunate for the opportunity to have Jessica as our sons speech therapist. Through her enthusiasm for helping kids and her natural ability to connect with our son, she was able to help him reduce his use of echolalia in communication. She used play as a way to help bring him out of his shell and form a true bond with him. She also went out of her way to create a social story that we could use in public to help with difficult situations. I am convinced that Jessica is the reason that my son is successful in his speech and communication now.
"I cannot say enough good things about Jessica Gates. Jessica began working with my son, Everett, when he turned two and was a little shy to strangers. Jessica was warm, fun, engaging, and instantly drew trust and love from Everett. He would greet her at the door with hugs and sometimes cry when she left. Everett was barely speaking when Jessica first began working with him and now at three he is right where he should be. I loved how Jessica would play on the floor at Everett’s level, using his toys while also bringing in things to rouse his budding interests. Each week Jessica customized her methods and brought new tools to focus on areas noticed the previous week. Her parental instructions were also instrumental in helping my husband and I work with Everett in between our weekly visits. Should we need additional therapy for Everett or services for our other child, I will call Jessica in a heartbeat."
We were introduced to Jessica a year and a half ago when our 18 month old twins weren't meeting their speech milestones. Jessica's interactive, play based speech therapy was exactly what they needed! Her fun loving spirit and targeted interventions have helped our children go from mostly non-verbal, at 18 months, to speaking hundreds of words as three year olds. Jessica has become a part of our extended family and we are forever grateful for her guidance!
